Did you extract the archive correctly, and have a .rockbox folder sitting in the root of your nano?

So, where exactly is the rockbox.ipod file on your player? Please type out the full path.

Febs:
So if your ipod is drive e:, you have a folder called e:\.rockbox (with the leading dot in front of the word "rockbox") with a file inside it called rockbox.ipod?

I don't think so -- if you did you shouldn't get that error message. Anyway, I'd suggest you to try our upcoming installer: http://www.rockbox.org/wiki/RockboxUtilityQt It should be able handling the complete installation correctly.
