iPod mini 2G, 4 gb. it was working fine this morning with a port from the spring (april??). i unzipped the newest port while it was charging. once i unplugged it, all i see is "rockbox ver. r14224-070807" i tried going back a few versions, but still nothing.
is there another update i need to do?
vargob:

Enter i to install the Rockbox bootloader, u to uninstall
or c to cancel and do nothing (i/u/c) :
and hit i to reinstall the bootloader.
I then reinstalled the firmware and it booted into rockbox but now i have another problem. I can get into it and (presumably) play music. When I go to plug the cable in, it shows the usb cord graphic and then it goes blank. the computer does not recognize it and the keypad has no effect. the only way to get it to come on is to use the menu+select to reboot it.
what is going wrong here?
uninstalled boot loader and deleted .rockbox and started over. same thing, the computer does not recognize the ipod when in rockbox or when it boots, it goes dead after realizing it is plugged in -- as opposed to changing over to the apple software.

This is a known issue that appears on some Ipods with some builds. The reasons are currently unknown. You have two options: try as long until you find a build that properly reboots or simply use the manual disk mode (that's what I'm doing -- a bit annoying but it works perfectly).
reku68:
my ipod (video) at first wouldn't reconise that I had the .exe even though i put it there and did the bootloader right. then it kept flashing the apple thing and going back to the screen that said how to restart and get to the drive thing. i tried both and i think the restart worked but nothing changed and the drive thing didn't work. then i tried conecting it back to my computer but it would not reconise that it was there. so i was stuck with the weird screen. then it ran out of battery and i think it charged (very dark) and then it just stayed with the little battery thing in the center. couldn't get back to that old menu.
the end
it worked perfect before download

You might want to restore your iPod
From your description I assume you're using Microsoft Windows, so you could use iTunes or iPodUpdater (there's option to restore your iPod)
To get into disk mode, press menu+select (and hold it), when it reboots, press menu+play
If you don't quite understand how to get to disk mode - there's video http://pl.youtube.com/watch?v=dq5qtvBUkvQ
