tring to install for the first time.  my iPod was formatted with an incompatible format so i ran these commands in the Terminal:

[INFO] Reading partition table from /dev/disk2s3
[INFO] Sector size is 512 bytes
[ERR]  Drive is not an iPod, aborting
-----------------------------

i did this once, then opened iTunes and let iTunes reformat the iPod...  apparently this wasn't what i should have done because the i was getting the same error when trying to backup the firmware.

now that my ipod is formatted correctly, and i'm using a mac, what do i do next?

i had a half dozen web pages open but my browser crashed and i forget where i was within the help section.  :(

thanks,
chris

GodEater:
If you run "ipodpatcher --scan" it'll give you the right device name. I suspect /dev/disk2s3 is probably a partition, and not the whole ipod device.

alternapop:
thanks for your response.   i don't think that's the problem.

i first got this error when trying to backup:

Bad boot sector signature

then via the forums discovered that i needed to reformat my ipod with the windows format.  that's when i got the next error...

Llorean:
Yes, because disk2s3 is not an iPod. GodEater is correct, that is not the whole device, just a partition.
