latest apple 5th gen vid firmware w/ tripple boot?

hey guys, i have a 5th gen 30 gig ipod vid, and i currently have it tipple booted with the apple firmware, rockbox, and ipod linux. i have not been able to upgrade my apple firmware, which has the screen brightness setting which i would really like to have, is it possible to do this? and if so what steps do i need to take to accomplish this? also i'm getting kinda bored of my ipod, and want to jazz it up a bit, i use it just bout every day in school n e suggestions?

Uninstall the Rockbox bootloader as per the official instructions/manual, update your iPod in iTunes (make sure not to restore), install the newest Rockbox bootloader as per the official instructions/manual, and you're done. This is assuming iTunes won't let you update as-is without uninstalling it. Either way you'll still need to reinstall it.
