Simple Q: Are Windows-Explorer-drag-n-dropped files played?
« on: January 12, 2007, 03:00:56 PM »
Hi,

the one reason I haven't bought a Nano yet is that I have to use the IMO stupid iTunes and their IMO stupid file organization in order the iPOD to play my tracks. Now if I use RockBox, will it play the files that I upload onto the device with Windows Explorer using my folder logic?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks!

Two more questions :)

1) Can I:
   - Use both the original firmware and RockBox?
   - Remove the original firmware completely?
   - Restore the original firmware back?

2) Remove the weird files & folders from the device and organize the music in my way (of course, in this case I don't expect the original firmware to work properly)

Big thanks again!

1) Yes, in all cases.

2) Yes, and your expectation is right.

Be aware that Rockbox doesn't work with the new Nanos (the all aluminium ones).  Apple completely changed the hardware inside them, as well as adding extra layers of encryption, so it's unlikely Rockbox will work on them in the near future, if ever.

So if you want Rockbox on a Nano, make sure you buy one of the older, First Generation Nanos.
