Stuck in "ipod diagnostics"...

(1/1)

madsic:
I remeber reading an ars electronica piece on all the ways to mistreat your ipod nano and how it would still carry on working. They didn't try sleeping on it... A pity that 'cause that's just what I did last night. When I awoke it looked as if though it had simply been turned off but on closer inspection a very, very dimly lit screen (can only be read holding it up to a light source) with the heading "IPOD DIAGNOSTICS" appeared... There appears to be some sort of menu underneath but I can't interact in any way with it.

I don't know how I got in there (what with being asleep and all), I don't really know if this is Apple firmware or Rockbox and I can't seem to get out of it (nothing responds... neither menu+select held for thirty seconds nor plugging it into the pc)

Can anybody help me?

dommo:
Wait for the battery to go completly flat?  Sounds like it is flat though with the backlight being off?  Try leaving it connected to a wall charger if you have one, if not, what about the pc?  If you turn off something without telling the lcd to turn off it can stay in the same state as when it was shut off, not sure for how long, but it could be that?

scorche:
Restart it with MENU + SELECT.  The Apple Diagnostic Mode is accessed with SELECT + REWIND.

On a side note, please read the stickies at the top of each forum.  This post has nothing to do with installation or removal.

dommo:
He said he'd tried menu and reset, but still, try it again, although I'd be surprised if the battery's still going by now!

scorche:
Before you held MENU + SELECT for 30 seconds, did you flick the HOLD switch on and off?

Also, I would recommend plugging the device in and leaving it that way for a while.
