Happy installation on HP140
stefekz:
So, just to reassure the hassled developers that not all the world is in full-on whine mode...
...just bought a 2nd-hand 140 off eBay at a keen price (after several weeks' of watching them go for about the same as new iPods of similar capacity). Read Rockbox manual weeks ago, and Wiki, leading to choice of iRiver 120/140 as 'I Want' box - rest of family have iPods, fine as non-geek player, but proprietary PITA for sharing paid-for music.
Installation procedure flawless: downloaded daily Rockbox-for-iriver, 1.66EU firmware from iRiver site, applied fwpatcher, uploaded firmware, got the -1 response, uploaded Rockbox binaries and fonts (yes, I realise I did this in the 'wrong' order, but actually it was reassuring to see the patched FW bring up the iRiver binaries in the absence of .rockbox in the root folder), rebooted.
Initial impressions all very positive - no complaints with audio quality, will get used to the navigation, playback on LAME-encoded MP3s and OggDropXPD OGGs working fine. Radio working well, once I'd plugged a spare 3.5mm lead into the headphone socket (was using line out, so radio had no antenna to work off ;-) I did get one 'codec failure' on an MP3, but this isn't reproducible.
Doubtless I'll find a niggle or two (and will break out the C or WPS-tweaking skills if the niggle stays ;-), and will spend ages re-ripping our CD collection to FLAC and on to should-it-be-MP3s-for-ease-of-sharing or OGG-for-compactness-quality-and-ideology... but for now, a massive
:) nice job! :)
to all contributors! (There'd be more smilen there, but PHP-nanny insists that more than 3 are as bad for us as too much chocolate...)
Many thanks - Stefek

It's so refreshing to hear from someone that actually followed the manual ;)

Wildbear:
I followed the instructions to install Rockbox on my HP-140 in mid December. It was straightforward. I wish I'd done it ages ago. What a great peace of software. I use the DAP much more now. Thanks to everyone involved!
From happy user number 2 Â ;D

Happy user #3 here ;D
I use the H140 for a couple of weeks now and I like it a lot.
Changed my battery for a new iPod battery and I have 28!! hours playtime.
