Does anyone fancy helping with a port to this?

I've started an audio driver based on the datasheet, at least some of the buttons are attached to GPIOA, and a lot of work has been done already for the iPod, iriver H10 and Sansa ports.

The big problem at the moment is the LCD, which will need reverse engineering.

We also need all the things mentioned in the NewPorts page on the Wiki

I'm interested, although I'm new to this and have only little experience. However, I have started by updating the wiki for YH-920. Didn't you say you own a YH-920 as well? Might be easier to start with that, since the display is closer to the Ipod one.

From my internet search, it seems that most of the hardware for YH-820, 920, and 925 is the same, except hard disk size and display. Can you confirm this, in particular for the audio chip?

I have a YH-920, but either it or the hard drive is dead.
The 820, 920 and 925 are all separate ports, so should have separate threads about them.

When you say that the display on the 920 is close to the iPod one, do you mean that it's a similar size (which won't make a huge amount of difference) or that it uses the same controller (which will make the 920 port a lot easier than the 820)?

I can confirm that both the YH-920 and the YH-820 use the AK4537 audio chip (I've taken them both apart to have a look!)  The 820 also uses the same RTC as the iriver H10, which will make that bit of the task a little easier.

Oops, I'm afraid I was way too naive here   ... I meant similar size, so I have yet to find out what controller is being used.

I have a YH-920

On the plastic strip of the LCD module there is this two marks :  S4E1  and  5002 .

The LCD module on the iRiver H1xx seems to have the same marks

I've identified most of the stuff on the PCB, save for the stuff dealing with charging, power management, etc.

I'm really interested in getting this thing working with Rockbox. I have little developing experience, at least in C, and I'm hoping this will give me a chance to learn a new language as well as contribute to the Rockbox community.

EDIT: As of November 30, 2008, this topic seems pretty much dead. I think if we're able to get the key to decrypt the firmware image on this particular player, we might have a shot at it. Does anyone on here know anything about desoldering the chip from the PCB and reading the data out using a hardware device of some sort?

It is sad that the Yh-820 cant be cracked. i dont have any knowledge about this so i am afraid i am unable to help. i would however like to show my support for the development of this. i own a Yh-820MC and its firmware seems to be screwed up when trying to make the mp3 player work under vista.
the hardware is still intact and i am able to use it as a USB.
if i am guided, i will be happy to open it up and find any info that you guys need, but as i said i have little experience (i can do soldering and stuff) and so i will need to be guided.

Hi.

I decided to try add support for fm radio of the rare Samsung YH-820 models which physically have it (tuner visible and working in the OF). I would like to ask people who have it for help. This is the first try to make this thing work, please test this compilation of Rockbox and tell here if your radio is working.

@b0hoon Just tested on CF-converted YH-820 with FM present. Factory FW works fine on 96.5 for example when switching to RB FW from google drive you gave - silence all the time on all FM range. Please let me know what else needed to be checked. Big thanks for your work!

Actually i was able to solder the radio module and other elements to the original mainboard without the module, so i have a working radio and good code too.

Unfortunately i've lost my developer's rights on gerrit during the accounts tests, and i can't publish my work or change any patch. Accounts on gerrit can be repaired only after gerrit update, but nobody cares. I asked about it on IRC a few times, and it was half a year ago and no one have done anything, so actually i'm stucked and i don't care much too.

Yes the Gerrit thing is very annoying. However, if you setup an account previously you should be able to push directly to git.
