-1 error, but loops, so can't reconnect to fix it?

(1/1)

Rippy:
Hi, I just heard about rockbox and just tried installing it on my 2nd gen Ipod mini. However, when the mini boots, it says "error: -1", followed by something like "reverting to other firmware". It doesn't change firmware, however, so what ensues is an infinite loop of restarts. The only way I could stop it was to reboot it into diagnostic mode, but even then you still can't get it to accept a connection to a PC.

At this point, what are my options? Waiting for the battery to go dead, with the hopes that connecting it after that will work?

I really, really don't want to kill my Ipod, and I know modifying firmware can be a risky buisness, so I'd appreciate some help. Thanks!

Llorean:
Boot it into Disk Mode with the button combinations.

Error: -1 means you didn't follow the full install instructions. You never extracted a rockbox.zip into the root of your player.

Rippy:
ahhhh, I coulda SWORN I did unzip it there. But then I guess I got caught up reading ahead in the instructions, and forgot.

Also, I was aware of the reboot and diag functions of Ipods, but disk mode is new to me. Thanks :D

(I'd read somewhere that -1 meant you didn't extract things right, however I just didn't know how to connect the Ipod)

Chronon:
Rippy, also you apparently didn't bundle the Apple firmware with the bootloader before installing.  If you had the bootloader would have launched the Apple firmware when it failed to find rockbox.ipod at the expected location.
