Do you have the rockbox.ipod and the .rockbox folder on your ipod? I believe that's what that error message means

i only have the ".rockbox" file showing up when i look at the ipod. How can I get the other file?

you need to open the folder that ipodpatcher is in. ie. if you put ipodpatcher in "C:\rockboxfolder\smeg" then you would type, "cd rockboxfolder." Then type, "cd smeg" THEN ipodpatcher --scan. CD means Change directory for the non-command prompy savvy
