Development environment under Red Hat linux
« on: January 08, 2007, 10:25:16 PM »
Since the search function is not working I must ask the questions...

1)I've got a full up RedHat 3.5 installation on one of my computers, should I have any problems with compiling the distribution?

2)I've got a Gigabeat player and I have no idea what the hardware configuration is under the hood. Are there specs posted somewhere in the developer forum or will I have to reverse engineer the code?

3)Are there any design artifacts for the design of the code (UML etc...)?

4)Are there coding standards/guidlines for this project?

1. There is no Red Hat Linux 3.5. What exactly are you referring to? Red Hat Linux 9 got released about 4 years ago and was superseded by Fedora Core. There is "Red Hat Enterprise Linux". Are you referring to that? In this case it isn't quite actual, but you might be able compiling the needed tools.
2. See the wiki
3. design artifacts? Rockbox is written from scratch. There are "design artifacts" from the older lines of supported players if you'll call that "artifacts". Look in the code, you'll see.
4. see docs/ folder

bluebrother,

"design artifact" means "documentation" in this context.

And no, we have no "design artifacts", and certainly no UML diagrams. We have the Wiki and the source code.

I'm using Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 3 service pack 5, hence the 3.5 notation.  Sorry about the unofficial notation.

Unless special tools are assumed I'm assuming it will build with:
configure/autoconf/make/gcc etc. Correct?
