loading rockbox
« on: January 07, 2007, 03:39:44 AM »
How long should it take to load rockbox for the first time? Its been loading for quite awhile, so I thought it froze, but when I restarted then went to disk mode all the screen says is "okay to disconnect," when its already disconnected. When rockbox tries to boot its says
"Rockbox boot loader
version: 20060126-1839
IPOD version: 0xFFFFFFF
No partition Found
Partition 1 : 0x0B 7130 MB
Loading Rockbox..."

Yes, but is it the 30gb or the 80gb version? I asked "exactly."

Does your bootloader have black text with a light light blue background, or white text with a black background?

It's light blue, trust me. It's just a very light blue.

For some reason you're using an old bootloader. The file you should've used should've been named bootloader-video.ipod, not .bin.

You should follow the uninstall instructions, and then follow the install guide from the Manual.

Which install guide specifically did you follow?

You should uninstall and then install by the instructions in the manual.

I need to know what instructions you followed that told you to use a .bin file though, as several 5G users have run into this, and I'm curious why people aren't following the manual, so I want to make sure whatever outdated page needs to contain a warning or whatnot.

You said "here" but didn't provide a link or anything. The uninstall instructions are also in the manual (to be used with the proper versions of the tools, also linked to in the manual).

If you were going to link to http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallation I would like to point your attention to the vibrant red text at the very very top of the page.

Yes, so the one that says at the very top, in bright red letters,  "NOTE: These instructions are now out of date. Please follow the new instructions at the IpodInstallationBeta page"

Anyway, everything you need is in the manual.

yeah...i guess there is no need for excuses, but now I remember reading that before I had the whole problem with vista and actually using the right directions, so now I feel really dumb. I guess I got anxious when I finally got stuff to work
