MIDIPLAY blocked on iAUDIO-X5 60Go
« on: January 05, 2007, 08:35:36 PM »
Hello,
I have X5 60Go with version "rockbox-iaudiox5-20070105" + \.rocknox\patchset
When I play midi file, I have the messages :
  loading instruments
  loading drums
  Okay, starting sequencing

RESULT : no sound & X5 is blocked

Someone can help me ?
Thanks

AFAIK iAudio X5 can't actually playback MIDI files with the current patchset. The patchset is around 22MB and has to be loaded in RAM before playback begins. The problem is simply that iAudio X5 has only 16MB of RAM in total. I believe that the only solution to this is someone find a smaller patchset.

Unfortunatly, it's seems the size of patchset is not the reason.

I have take a patchset of 8Mo : the problem is identical (X5 blocked)
Do you know the memory size needed by midiplay ?

have you another idea ?

thank's

I've searched the forums and apparently Midi files can be played on every target EXCEPT for the iAudio X5.  I have a 30GB X5L and have installed the patches as well and they just do not work.

Does anyone have the expertise to figure out why this is happening, or how to possibly fix it?  (I don't).  I REALLY want Midi's on the X5 and have always wanted a portable player capable of playing them.  I just recently learned about the Midi patchset for Rockbox, and the apparent fact that the X5 is the only non-working target is really frustrating!

Please...can anyone help with this?  PLEASE???   ;)

The X5 has 16mb of RAM. The patch files are larger than this.

Remember: MIDI support is NOT finished yet. That's why it's not actually a codec. It plays fairly poorly on any target anyway.

The Rockbox MIDI player only loads the patches that are actually used by the tune, so the patchset size doesn't matter.

The reason that the X5 MIDI player locked up is because it attempted to use non-DMA IRAM for the PCM buffer. I have fixed that in SVN, and also optimized it a little.

We still have a long way to go to play MIDI files at 44100Hz though...

Enjoy!
