ipodpatcher
« on: January 05, 2007, 05:13:31 PM »
when I run the ipodpatcher, another command prompt window opens up, but then closes before I can see what number I should be using to identify my ipod. I might be doing this totally wrong since I am a newb, but if someone could tell me where I am messing up, it would really help.
Thank

Are you opening a command window and then running ipodpatcher from the command prompt?  Or are you trying to double-click on it from Windows?  Or something else?

Just to be 100% clear, you're on an all-black screen, and you type "ipodpatcher --scan" at the C:\rockbox\> prompt?

You are not typing it into a white bar of some sort, somewhere?

I'm sure im typing it into the command prompt. The ipodpatcher runs and everything, but it runs in a seperate command prompt window, and this window closes before I can read what number comes up. When it is done running the command prompt goes back to the C:\rockbox>
Im running vista, could that have any affect on this?

If Vista's in the habit of running executables in new windows, it's entirely possible. I can see Microsoft doing something crazy like that just to screw over people who still like to use the command line.

There's probably a setting you can change if it is Vista-caused, though.

Yeah or you could send the output to a file, as follows :
ipodpatcher --scan > output.txt

Then open output.txt and you will have all the time in the world to read what it said ;)

In the same folder as where you run your command. So its most probably

C:\rockbox\output.txt

It is? I have to admit I haven't tried it...It should work though.
Maybe without spaces (been a while since I last used batch in windows)
Like so :

ipodpatcher --scan>output.txt

Well what I would try if I were you is hitting the "Print screen" button of your keyboard at the very
moment when the separate window pops up.

Then go to Paint and go Edit -> Paste

N.b. This might be a bit tricky^^

PS :Im off to bed - good luck

I just remembered that in winXP you can also run command (which is not the same as running cmd)
But it goes the same way : Start -> Run -> command

I don't know though if command is still present in Vista.
It was already surprising you could still find it in winXP.
