Creating a backup of my ipod's firmware partition
« on: January 03, 2007, 09:30:50 PM »
I am having some trouble creating the backup of my ipod's firmware partition.

In step E for windows, the instructions say to Type the following command, replacing "[device]" with the number (for Windows users) or the device name (Mac OS X and Unix users) assigned to your ipod that you found in the previous step:

ipodpatcher [device] -r bootpartition.bin (Windows)

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationBeta#Installation_instructions

When I entered the device number that was given to me by running ipodpatcher --scan (1), comand prompt said,

C:\rockboxinstall>ipodpatcher [1] -r bootpartition.bin
ipodpatcher v0.5 - Dave Chapman 2006

It says replace "[device]". That includes replacing the [ and ], it doesn't say replace "device".
