Just so you know, that's not the .rockbox folder. It's the rockbox.iriver file which is the Rockbox firmware file. When you run it, Rockbox runs, so it appears as though it jumps back to the root folder. To see the .rockbox folder you'll need to display all files, not just supported files (on the H300 that's done by holding A-B, maybe the same for H120).

later edit:
theme, font and button behaviour are congigured to my liking again, but there is one disturbing thing remaining:
in the recording screen I only can adjust the total gain, I cannot choose if I want to adjust a single channel individually or both together as it used to be.
Can I define this in the settings, or is this changed from earlier rockbox versions?

the individual channels controls on recording screen are back!
In the recording settings I am missing options which are mentioned in the manual: nowhere to choose fileformat, biterate and frequency in which to record, 'channels' options where I could choose between mono and stereo.
Is there only the 'default' WAV, 44,1 kHz stereo with rockbox? - would be fine though!

Sounds your build is pretty much outdated -- recording codecs have been added some time ago, and you can now record to mp3, wv and wav (IIRC) with various quality settings. Please make sure to extract the complete build on your player, not only the rockbox.iriver file -- the folder .rockbox (hidden by some OS) contains e.g. the encoder codecs and other vital stuff.

since the whole excercise was to update I don't have any idea how it happened, but of course you were right.
Now finally the daily version is up and running and configured to my liking.

thank you so much all,
Rockbox and it's features above all for recording made me choose this player
and what a great combination it is!
if only as 'user', still glad and pround to take part in it.

kuuan:
now again, two days after working normally, on start up my configurations were gone and there was no playback of music due to codec failure.

So I decided and formated my player.

After new installation of the daily build of Rockbox all is fine except that there are less.wps files to choose than before, the one I used to run and would like to get back is not there.

I decided to open a new thread about my .wps questions at the Rockbox for h1xx > all WPS discussions/questions: http://www.misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=50638
