after Rockbox update H120 won't play no more

Abt. two days ago I decided to download a new daily build and draged the .rockbox file into the H100 folder, whereopun I was asked if I wanted it to sustitute the old one and I clicked 'yes'.
Now it does not play any mp3s any more, a message saying 'codec Failure' flashes, otherwise the player seems to perform normally.
The orginal firmware does play the music and overwriting with the old version of .rockbox did not change it, still it says codec failure.

I have been running Rockbox since the day I got the H120 and it has been a joy.
This was my first 'upgrade' attempt, just being curious if I could recognize changes. Well, I do...this is why I write...

have I made a mistake trying to upgrad to a daily build in this manner?
can I install some codec only, or substitute the codec folder?
should I formt my harddisc once? ( never done yet, had no necessity and I don't want to since the player is full. - might find some quick guide for this around here )

how to...?

AlexP:
You need to extract and replace the whole archive including the .rockbox folder to update a build, not just the rockbox.iriver file

kuuan:
hm..the winzip created two files, one called .rockbox and the other rockbox.iriver.
I only had dragged the .rockbox file
should I put both on the H100?

edit: just tried that, but no change

AlexP:
Extract the entire archive direct to the root of your DAP.  .rockbox is a folder containing many files.

I have just done that with the new daily build, problem persists.
Should I try same procedure as first time Rockbox installation?
