Changing Firmware?
« on: January 02, 2007, 01:35:09 AM »
If I install rockbox on my iPod video 5.5, is it possible when I boot/open the iPod I have the ability to boot up the original iPod firmware or the newly installed rockbox software instead?

The rockbox bootloader always boots into Rockbox by default - but if you put the hold switch to "on" immediately after you power on, it should boot into the Apple firmware.

And make sure your iPod is the 30gb version, the 80gb doesn't work, yet!

Hi,

If you put the HOLD switch to ON while booting, Rockbox boots with "all cleared" (reset all settings).

To boot Apple's firmware you need to press and hold MENU while booting. A message will appears on screen: "Loading original firmware".

Bye.

[EDIT] This information I wrote above is wrong, only works on the old bootloader. The new one was modified. Sorry.

If you upgrade to the latest bootloader, the hold switch boots to the Apple firmware.  To reset the settings, you need to turn the hold switch on after the bootloader starts, but before Rockbox starts.
