Install on apple 5.5g video 30gb help!
« on: December 30, 2006, 05:50:12 PM »
Ok, so i have found a tutorial to install rockbox onto my apple ipod 5.5g video 30gig. and in part of the tutorial, i have to, through the comman prompt, load the bootloacer onto the ipod, which is fine. but in order for this to work, i have to use a differrent boot loader, loader2. i have this loader, but it is a bin file(.bin). and the ipodpatcher program used to load this onto the ipod, will not load it because it is not a .ipod file, like the regular bootloader is. does anyone know how i can convert this into a .ipod file? i have tried just changing the extension to .ipod, but it stays a bin file. any help would be greatly apperciated, thanks!!!!!!!!!!

The Rockbox installation instructions do NOT instruct you to install loader2.

Please do not ask us for help installing other people's software.

i am very sorry, i think i became a little confused. :o I just want to install rockbox onto my 5.5g 30gig ipod video and be able to choose betweent apple os and rockbox. i hve been searching everywhere frantically and i posted on here thinking i was on another board, and i meant to ask what i just asked in this post. sorry about that.

so final question, is there a way to install rockbox onto  my ipod(5.5g 30gig w/video) and choose between it and the apple os?

if so, can someone point me in the right direction for a tutorial of this. thanks in advance, hopefully this is ok to ask. ;)

Just follow our installation instructions. I'm not sure why you think you need to use loader2, as our bootloader offers you the choice.

If you do nothing while booting, it loads Rockbox. If you turn on hold immediately after powering up, it loads Apple.

Well, first, don't use things like "ur" in our forums. We have rules, and you agreed to read them during the signup process, apparently though you haven't.

Installation instructions can be found in *gasp* the documentation as seen on the link to the left, or here http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodInstallationBeta

And yes, it'll work for 5.5G 30gb.
