Do I need to 'de-rombox' my archos v1 recorder

(1/1)

ocotillo:
In previous daily bulds I used rombox, as it freed up more buffer space/memory.  Now that its no longer in the builds, I have simply been flashing with rockbox.ucl.  Did I need to do something to 'de-rombox'?

I have noticed that my buffer space is  down to 1.387 Mbytes, using the Dec. 22 build, which seems quite low.  How much buffer space is normal these days on a V1 archos recorder?

Thanks

TAC109:
Flashing with rockbox.ucl is all you need to do to to 'de-rombox'.

With rockbox.ucl flashed, when you boot the Archos, all rockbox code is decompressed and loaded from ROM into RAM, which accounts for the decreased amount of buffer space available.

As you have found, the later versions of Rockbox are more designed for the newer DAPs where memory is not so constrained.

nls:
The loss of rombox for some targets is not by intention but is a side effect of adding many features and a lack of size optimization. Some work has been done to reduce code size an get rombox back but no one knows if it will succeed, one method to use rombox anyway is to build your own rockbox and disable tagcahe (Database)
