Question: how would you like bookmarks to work?
NickSmolinske:
I'm trying to get bookmarks working with the tag database, and I'd like people's input on how they use (or would like to use) bookmarks in rockbox. Here's what I have so far, for use cases:
* global bookmarks (i.e. the Recent Bookmarks menu) - when restoring bookmarks, rockbox should restore what the playlist was when the bookmark was saved
* single-file-based saving and restoration - the user would save before they stopped playing a file (or auto-save), then when they want to restore the bookmark they'd re-navigate to any playlist containing the file, select the file, and load the bookmark from there
If you have anything to add to this, or comments on either of these, please let me know. Thanks!

I would have thought, for consistency, that the functionality should be identical to the 'standard' rockbox bookmarking.
Boyd:
I listen to Audio Books - Instructional material - Seminars - AND lots of music.
I'd like to see something similar to "Play Lists" with the ability to auto-save multiple Resume Locations for each Bookmark.
"Multiple" because maybe I got distracted and missed something, and want to restart from a previous Bookmark.
Any Playlist, Album, Artist, or Genre that is played should automatically generate a renamable Bookmark and Resume Point, when you stop it or switch to something else.

Well, the problem I see is that the current functionality doesn't translate very well to use with the database. Currently bookmarks are associated with directories or playlists, and so it's not clear to me what to do with the dynamic playlists generated by the database.

That's fair enough. I think my problem is that I don't understand the difference between a folder-view-based playlist and a database-view-based one. I presume the difference is big enough that it somehow breaks the current designed functionality, but I don't understand how.
All I really want in a bookmark system is the ability to go to the context menu, select 'create bookmark' and then start listening to something else altogether, safe in the knowledge that when I select the saved bookmark, it reloads exactly the playlist that I had been listening to and restarts in the place that I created the bookmark.
