What does this do? (H120)
« on: December 29, 2006, 12:40:08 PM »
I had a unfortunate accident with my H120 where a small chip came off the motherboard.

Here it is encircled in red (the chip with SS on it):

This is actually a photo off rockbox.org which I'm using to illustrate which piece came off.

Does anybody know:

1) what this part does
2) if it a standard part that can be purchased somewhere like radioshack or elsewhere.
3) if it is too small to solder it on by hand
4) if there is anyway to jury rig it to work again, as right now the player wont turn on.

I have a fried H120 ... i'd be willing to send you the circuit board and you can toy with it if you like. If I were you I'd be worried about the HDD not working anymore. Then the question is... is it worth playing with, or can you just get another one off ebay :-)
