Theme Request Thread

OMG! you have to make a hello kitty theme for the 5g video ipod!

bascule:
I'm kind of tempted to lock this thread now...

1. Although the OP made a good faith offer, the requests are becoming sillier and have no detail about what they may want to see.
2. It's really becoming a 'I don't actually care what the "theme" is, just let me put a nice backdrop on my screen' thread.
3. It's really easy for most users with a tiny bit of work to modify a theme they like with a different backdrop/colour scheme. This thread seems to me to be only encouraging laziness...
4. I'm a grumpy old man :)

I'll let the OP have the last say on whether it closes or not...

I think what is needed is just a good all purpose theme that shows information clearly at a glance and does not have a lot of clutter.  If you discount the default wps, which is practically unreadable, it  is difficult to identify any currently available WPS that could be considered to be the 'standard' or 'default' WPS for the Gigabeat (which is what I have.)

Having played around with my own Gigabeat and got it more or less to my liking by modifying backgrounds and graphics, I have noted that plain colored light backgrounds work best. You can put a faintly colored 'watermark' insignia on it if you want, but even that reduces visibility. Background images nearly always reduce visibility. There may be something to be said for light type on a dark background, but personally I don't like it. If I am trying to read a blog that has white type on black paper, I set my browser to reverse this.

A font needs to be large enough to read without a microscope, yet small enough to allow a reasonable sized main menu to be displayed on the screen in its entirety (maybe about 10 lines).

Items included on the WPS are pretty standard, but should include Battery Time Left, a status bar, and information about what is playing, whether playing, paused, or in fast forward or fast back modes. The rest of the stuff is more-or-less extras.

The vast majority of people these days (contrary to what many people here may believe) are NOT computer literate, and don't want to even have to try to mess with installing different WPS's, so what is really needed is a decent professional-looking default interface to replace the current default.

So THAT is the challenge.

i agree. I almost want to think that the rockboxed theme could be the new default wps, but it needs some work with all the blank space. (i would guess thees A LOTmore space on the gigabeats then the ipods.
