A remake of this theme for the 5g would be amazing, I hope one of you artists will pick up this task because it would be sweet.
Keep ROCKing on!

I second the motion for a PS3 theme. OR even better, a Resistance: Fall of Man theme. For the X5.

I'm kind of tempted to lock this thread now...

1. Although the OP made a good faith offer, the requests are becoming sillier and have no detail about what they may want to see.
2. It's really becoming a 'I don't actually care what the "theme" is, just let me put a nice backdrop on my screen' thread.
3. It's really easy for most users with a tiny bit of work to modify a theme they like with a different backdrop/colour scheme. This thread seems to me to be only encouraging laziness...
4. I'm a grumpy old man :)

I'll let the OP have the last say on whether it closes or not...

I think what is needed is just a good all purpose theme that shows information clearly at a glance and does not have a lot of clutter.  If you discount the default wps, which is practically unreadable, it  is difficult to identify any currently available WPS that could be considered to be the 'standard' or 'default' WPS for the Gigabeat (which is what I have.)

Having played around with my own Gigabeat and got it more or less to my liking by modifying backgrounds and graphics, I have noted that plain colored light backgrounds work best. You can put a faintly colored 'watermark' insignia on it if you want, but even that reduces visibility. Background images nearly always reduce visibility. There may be something to be said for light type on a dark background, but personally I don't like it. If I am trying to read a blog that has white type on black paper, I set my browser to reverse this.

A font needs to be large enough to read without a microscope, yet small enough to allow a reasonable sized main menu to be displayed on the screen in its entirety (maybe about 10 lines).

Items included on the WPS are pretty standard, but should include Battery Time Left, a status bar, and information about what is playing, whether playing, paused, or in fast forward or fast back modes. The rest of the stuff is more-or-less extras.

The vast majority of people these days (contrary to what many people here may believe) are NOT computer literate, and don't want to even have to try to mess with installing different WPS's, so what is really needed is a decent professional-looking default interface to replace the current default.

So THAT is the challenge.

i agree. I almost want to think that the rockboxed theme could be the new default wps, but it needs some work with all the blank space. (i would guess thees A LOTmore space on the gigabeats then the ipods.

Yes, Rockboxed is good except for the ugly colors and typeface. With a change of font it looks better, and it is basically clean and unfussy. I would make the yellow a bit lighter, though.

Why are there so many fonts in the package, most of which are totally useless unless used under a microscope? Three or four decent fonts would be a lot more useful, instead of 50 useless ones. It is like cable TV.

It does not seem very satisfactory to have other WPS's that need special builds and patches. I tried one called Zune (lookalike) and it crashed my player so bad, so that in the end I had to completely uninstall rockbox and reinstall from scratch.

Because not everyone has high res displays.  My player is 160x128.  I have no problem using it, as long as I  only stick to sub 10px fonts.  I'm usually using a 7 or 8px font.  To get 10 lines of text, I have to use a tiny font.  Most of the "good" fonts fit 4 or 5 lines.

People with high res displays like small fonts as well, especially if they want to see lots of text alongside large album art.
