[ERR] Drive is not an iPod, aborting
« on: December 27, 2006, 11:44:34 PM »
Hi, I searched through the forum here for an answer and couldn't find one, so I apologize for asking a question that you may have heard a million times.
I keep getting "drive is not an ipod, aborting" when I am on step e (creating a backup of firmware partition)

below it shows what I typed in, and the result..  Also you may notice I wrote ipodpatcher.txt instead of just ipodpatcher.  I did this because chmod +x ipodpatcher did not work. so i tried chmod +x ipodpatcher.txt.   This one did work.  Is that normal? or ok?

Leg-Donors-Computer:~/desktop benjamin$ ./ipodpatcher.txt /dev/disk2s2 -r bootpartition.bin
ipodpatcher v0.5 - (C) Dave Chapman 2006

[INFO] Reading partition table from /dev/disk2s2
[INFO] Sector size is 512 bytes
[ERR]  Drive is not an iPod, aborting
Leg-Donors-Computer:~/desktop benjamin$

PS. I feel like I've followed every step leading up to this perfectly.

It's my second hour, and I'm still fiddling with this installation.  As suggested by some other threads, I tried different numbers after "ipodpatcher"

Below is what happened when I tried ipodpatcher.txt 2

what in gods name does this mean?

Leg-Donors-Computer:~/desktop benjamin$ ./ipodpatcher.txt 2 /dev/disk2s2 -r bootpartition.bin
ipodpatcher v0.5 - (C) Dave Chapman 2006
This is free software; see the source for copying conditions.  There is NO
warranty; not even for MERCHANTABILITY or FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Usage: ipodpatcher --scan
    or ipodpatcher device [action]

Where [action] is one of the following options:
  -l,  --list
  -r,  --read-partition   bootpartition.bin
  -w,  --write-partition  bootpartition.bin
  -rf, --read-firmware    filename.ipod
  -wf, --write-firmware   filename.ipod
  -a,  --add-bootloader   filename.ipod
  -d,  --delete-bootloader

"device" is the device node (e.g. /dev/sda) assigned to your ipod.
ipodpatcher will refuse to access a disk unless it can identify it as being
an ipod.

Use /dev/disk2, NOT /dev/disk2s2.
