Loader 2 with Rockbox
« on: December 27, 2006, 11:25:36 PM »
I want to install Loader 2 with Rockbox so the menu reads:

-Rockbox
-Apple OS
-Disk Mode
-Sleep

But when I install Loader 2 after I install Rockbox, I get

-Apple OS
-Disk Mode
-Sleep

How do I get Rockbox on the menu?

(I installed Rockbox using the new instructions that worked fine, then I installed the Loader 2 using instructions on this forum, I also have a 5.5g iPod Video)

Are you sure the version of Loader2 you've installed supports the 5.5g?

If so, then Loader2 should detect the presence of rockbox.ipod on your FAT32 partition and automatically add it to the menu.  If that isn't working, you should ask in the ipodlinux support channels - Loader2 is their application.

Make your own topic, my question hasn't been answered...

I do have rockbox.ipod on my FAT32 partition, I'm wondering which partition does the new installation page ask me to install it on, the FAT32, or the Apple Firmware.

to change the boot menu you'll have to create a config file
in the root directory of the ipods fat32 partition named "loader.cfg"

i have this content in my file:

# iPodLoader 2.3 config file
backlight = 1
timeout = 30
default = 1
# here come the menu choices:
Apple @ ramimg
Rockbox @ (hd0,1)/ROCKBO~1.IPO
Sleep @ standby
Disk Mode @ diskmode
Reboot @ reboot

ya, I'm all around having trouble...
I'm trying many different techniques including using loader2, I'm in the same situation as you.

I say we keep each other updated on this and see if either of us can get this done easily :P

Hi.

I had this problem once, but my iPod is a video 5G 60gb.

I used loader2 for a time, allways okay. So I tried rockbox bootloader. Then I tried to come back to Loader2 and got the same problem you have. Just Apple OS, Disk Mode and Sleep on bootmenu.

The way I did to solve this was installing the Rockbox bootloader, instead of Loader2.

Is the same, you can access both firmwares every time you want.

The difference is just the boot menu.

I don´t know if my experience helps you.

Bye.

Goldsun1715 and Sentertainment - the behaviour of Loader2 you describe is consistent with both of you owning 80GB 5.5G iPod Videos.

Loader2 fails to access the disc drive - gives up, and displays it's default menu.

There is no known fix for this yet.

I've checked the ipodlinux wiki page for Loader_2 here:

http://ipodlinux.org/Loader_2

and the version available from that page (v2.4) was released in May 2006 - a long time before the 5.5g was released.  So unless you're using a newer version that is known to have been adapted to work with the 5.5g, it WILL NOT WORK.

yo, I never said 80 ;)

I own the 30gb and I got the default Rockbox loader working....Right now I don't see flat-out support for the 5.5g and loader2 yet, soI'm happy with what I got until it's all cleared up.
