<20Hz >20Khz Frecuency Range Device Support
« on: December 23, 2006, 10:28:07 AM »
Hi

First, this is my first post and i want to tell that my english is very poor, i live in Chile and hope that you understand me  :D
well, i'm new in this site and i have found this software great. Thanks to all people for they constributions.

i don't have any device for this software, so when i found this page i want to buy one that fully support it.

I have been buy recently a sony headphone that i love it, it sound great. One feature of this headphone is that they can sound at 16hz - 22Khz range of frecuency. But (and my question is that) i don't have any idea if there is a device that can play at this range or if a device can play it by software. I want a device that play flac format, so this one must have a lot of space, and play it with the range of frecuency that my headphone can. People can say: "but , you can ear those frecuencies?", my reply is "i don't know, but i want to know" and get the experiencie from this device if it can support it.

So my question is that there is a device that can play less than 20Hz and more than 20Khz ??  ???

Hope you understand me

Unless you are a dog or a bat, the ability of a portable device to reproduce frequencies above 20kHz really shouldn't be one of the more significant factors in your purchasing decision.  Even if you can hear frequencies above 20kHz--which is unlikely--there is very little musical content in that range.  In fact, there is NO content above 22kHz at all in CD audio.

Typical CD audio is lowpassed above 18kHz, so support for high frequencies probably doesn't matter if you listen to CD audio.

Typical DACs lowpass around 18-21KHz.

Typical human hearing cuts out around 15-18KHz FWIW.  I suggest getting a tone generator (theres tons of free ones on google) and seeing what you can hear on your PC with those headphones.  What'll happen when the sound card reaches the lowpass range is that the volume will suddenly get a lot quieter, then (if your hearing is inhumanly good) the frequency range will start to bounce back towards lower frequencies.

I've never met anyone who could hear this, but you can see it pretty clearly on a scope.
