160gb HD for JBR20 V1
« on: December 22, 2006, 01:52:06 PM »
hi,

this subject has come up before but i'm still not sure what the answer is. now that prices of these have now come down i'm now considering buying one.

as i understand it a 160gb drive can be  fitted in the jbr20 v1 so long as it's partitioned to 128gb.

as things stand, is there a simple way for non techie types to allow the rest of the drive to be accessable either through usb or rockbox?

Also, you don't have to partition the device to 128 gigs for it to work in the device.  You just won't be able to access above that if you do not create a special build.

thanks for that.

i had actually found that info already but i cant edit the config files.

i was wondering if a custom build had been released, making this possible for non tekkie dumbfux like myself.

if i just use the bigger drive without partitioning it, would the excess capacity be usable via USB?

also, would an SATA drive work or would it have to be just an ATA (parallel) drive?

the reason i'm interested in doing this is because i have an av500 100gb & a 504 160gb player.
both are not as good as my jbr20 v1 for playing mp3s thanks to rockbox.

i intend to sell the 2 newer players & then either get another jbr or expand my present jbr.

it's amazing that a 6 year old device is still better than the new devices, especially when nowadays most devices are supaceded within 8 months.

thanks again.
