JB rec 20 problems
« on: December 20, 2006, 05:14:15 PM »
Aloha Rockbox fixers. My 5.5 year old JB rec 20 started acting up. It has Rockbox and is flashed. First it would stop playing and odd characters appeared on the display, but an off/on cycle would get it going. Then it would do this at the same place in a particular file, like a disk error, but shortly the problems got worse. Turning it on would just bring up what looks like Turkish characters, and plugging in the charger would not bring up the usual charging battery screen. Now there is never any display characters, although the disk can be felt as spinning-up for about 5 seconds. When I plug in the charger the green light comes on, also when I push the start button, but never any display. I have'nt seen any other posts like this one, but I'm a newbie. I am a repair tech, so I am going to disassemble the unit to check the battery wires. I think that this is a problem with the PCB since there is no display characters.

I have my JB rec 20 apart, but the instructions need some improvement. I took some more pictures showing additional information concerning desolder points, removal of the hard drive, and additional desolder points underneath.

Why did you post multiple times, and why did you post these here at all as opposed to fixing the page?

Hello,
My studio10 is having the same problem! Recently all kind of characters appeared and now the screen is blank. It is still working though, I can still load playlists and play songs. I also tried the rescue boot, "Rockbox rescue boot" appears normally but after the boot screen all kind of characters are shown (a normal boot doens't even show the boot screen, blank screen all the time)
Does anyone know how to fix this problem? parkjames did you find out anything while taking youre JB apart?

I also tried turning on the spoken menus. I addes the line lang: /.rockbox/english.lng to a .cfg file and played it, but it doens't work. Am I doing something wrong?

I have searched this website.  Is there a link to some step by step instructions with pictures of how to disassemble a JBM or JBR20 V2?

Thanks

If you click on the "index" link in the Rockbox site menu, you will find a page with all kinds of nice information, among them a link to this page:
