worst case you could got to the iriver store at misticriver and send it to them. it is better then buying a new player, or braking yours while trying to fix it yourself

Hi there,

I had this problem not so long ago, i think that it was something to do with the charging circuit being faulty (strangely enough, i had just returned from travelling too) But the way that i managed to get my stuff off the hard drive was this, leave the unit plugged in to the wall socket but also plug in the USB lead into an active windows machine. You may see the screen flashing over and over again but after a while, it will get enough charge in it to load the firmware and act as a hdd on your PC.

Another thought, if that doesn't work for you, try sticking something to the REC button so that the iriver boots into the factory firmware and then directly into USB charge.
