Rockbox on mk8007gah
« on: December 18, 2006, 07:28:54 AM »
Hi!

Today i install new hard drive mk8007gah on my h300 (finally! :))
First, it was strange, but it goes without any file system on it.
With the help of Partition Magig i formated drive to FAT32.
After that iriver firmware recognize it without any problem, play music and all, but didn't even try to format it.
But it's not a problem, problem is Rockbox didn't want to start at all. It goes like "Bat: 4.4V"  and stop to do anything. After 5 second harddrive stop to turn too.

When I connect drive in Bootloader USB mode PC didn't recognize it.

I think maybe Rockbox didn't start because of new drive (perpendicular record stuff or other), or because of FAT32 file system (cluster size or smt other), but I don't know how to check it and, most important, how to fix it.

Does anyone have the simular problem?

Sounds like a flat battery :(  Give it an hour-long charge and try again...

And what about file system. Do you install any? And have you tried to format you drive from original firmware mode?

The perpendicular recording is just the lowest level and it does not affect the ATA protocol nor the way how the logical data is organized on the disk.

I would try:
- checking whether there is only one primary partition and that it is the first one in the partition table
- format the disk using the format utility in the original firmware
- partition and format the disk using some approved tool like SwissKnife
- formating a smaller partition (like 20 GB)

FAT32 using Paragon Partition Manager, and no I haven't tried to format the drive using the old iRiver firmware.

The drive already had a small partition on it, so I removed that, then just created one big partition and formatted it as FAT32.

Rockbox reports the disk size as 74.4GB.

You might check that there isn't already some small partition already on the drive - if there is, delete it and reformat.

Are you using any custome builds of Rockbox or just the standard CVS?  Maybe try updating to the latest version and see if that helps?
