Computer won't recognize ipod 3rd gen

(1/1)

e133th4x0r:
Ive been looking around now, and sorry if i missed it, but i have a major problem.  So, I decided to get rockbox for my 3rd gen ipod, and so I reformatted it using the Apple updater because i had previously put ipod linux on it.  so after i install everything, and get really excited, all of a sudden my computer stops recognizing my ipod as a device...when i put it in my firewire dock, it charges.  and when i hook it up through my usb cord, the computer doesnt recognize it.  I know by now half of you are saying "rockbox doesnt work using firewire connections" and "you need to restart it using disk mode."    thats my problem.  I restart my iPod and try to put in on disk mode, but it doesnt work.  I dont know what do to...any help please?

Are you sure you're holding the right keys for disk mode? I understand the 3G iPods use different ones than the later ones, so have you checked the Apple webpage to make sure?

omg! it works, how much of an idiot have i been, gosh.  its been like this for a few months now and FINALLY, i try something different.  well what i have beeen doing is following the directions.  Press the play/pause and menu buttons until it resets, then quickly press the rewind button until it enters disk mode...so what i ACUTALLY HAD to do was HOLD ALL THREE AT THE SAME TIME.  thank you though.  ;D
