How do I charge an H320 via USB connection
« on: December 14, 2006, 11:16:08 AM »
Having just flashed my H320 to Rockbox, it works great, appart from not being able to find a way of charging via the USB cable other than going back into iriver firmware.
Surely there is a way of doing this...? I can't find any menu item regarding USB cable function!
Is it just me...(probably!)

I'm pretty sure you hold down the rec button while insering the usb cable to charge instead of going to disk mode.

I have to ask, was the "POSTING IN THIS FORUM" post unclear, as I thought it was pretty explicit as to what belongs in this section, but if it wasn't, I can update it.

Apologies, Llorean. Although the subject didn't seem to quite fit this forum, it equally didn't sem to fit the otheres since the issue was Iriver specific.

There's actually a forum that says that if you're unsure, you should post there.

There's also a forum that says that if the problem is specific to ANY individual hardware, you post there.

There's also a forum for the user interface, the part of the software that you interact. I can even understand putting it there.

But this forum very very clearly states that "Once you have booted Rockbox succesfully, you should voice your concerns in other forums." I don't see that as leaving any elbow room, do you?

Ok, points noted, and as I said before, I apologize.

Apology accepted, and all that. It's just somewhat tiring, that these installation forums continually get abused, even though I've added that very explicit line to them. It'd honestly help to know what the thought process was behind ignoring it, so that I can improve the post.

I'm assuming that I'm a typical user here, so let me explain my standpoint and thought process.
I was not a previously longstanding member of Rockbox Forums, or for that matter any other product forums.
I find one day that I'm the proud owner of a new toy (product) and want to find out what other people think of it, so I type (in this case) iriver h320 into Google and I find the Rockbox website. This is all being done in my lunch break at work as it's all new and exciting for me and I can't wait until I get home.
I find the web site has forums, and a quick scan gives me a very rough feel for which forums support which products. (And I admit I don't necessarily read the "posting in this forum" message. It's like refusing to look in the index of a book because I can find it by myself !!...maybe a man thing I guess).
I quickly formulate and post a question and dash off back to work, lunchtime finished, and look forward to a response later.
Over the forthcoming days/weeks, I then become more familiar with the forums and have a much better understanding of which to post into.
That's how things work for me, and I'm not sure how you could improve your site to take account of this, in our quick, want it now, let's do it and see what happens, culture.
In my case, a slightly more explicit explanation under the forum title on the forum home page would help rather than in the specific "posting in this forum" entry. This would be there for me to read without needing to search out additional imformation that in my naivety think I can do without.
I really hope this helps, because you do have an excellent web site / product and forum setup here, and long may it continue.
