Can rockbox damage hardware?
« on: December 13, 2006, 07:31:08 AM »
Hello.

i have ipod mini 2g

i have question as in topic. is it possible that rockbox can damage ipod hardware?
I'm asking becouse i was using rockbox for couple months and some days ago my logicboard (mainboard) was damaged. Ofcourse i gave it to the service 1 week ago and now i have it back... but i dont know if it was becouse of rockbox, is it possible?
i want load this software again, but i'm still hesitating.

and 2nd question is that from time to time (more than less), after loading rockbox i have some horizontal line on the screen (everytime in different place of lcd) tiill i reset ipod. I can stand it, but isn't the first sign that is something wrong with my ipod?
in addition, before first break down i had those lines also.

looking forward for some answer
thanx in advance
greets

EDIT: Nobody knows...:/

Rockbox should not be able to damage your hardware. While it's not impossible, there's nothing in it that should be damaging. Almost all of what it does is based off code iPodLinux has been using for a long time safely, and even if it were damaging, we would see other cases of it.

I think you can safely say it's just normal hardware failure.

and what about those annoying pixel lines poping up from time to time?
 EDIT:

Its going to the same...
my ipod is starting behaving like before crash. after i saw on a screen battery with exclamation mark, i couldnt turn on my ipod and logic board was damaged. I had to give it to service.
And now i saw this screen again, but fortunately i was able to turn it on.
Strange thing is that battery is charged.
So i really dont know WTF is going on... should i leave rockbox, or uninstall it?
maybe is something wrong with battery
please help

If you see the screen with the battery sign, just do a reset by holding select + menu. There is no need to panic.

The horizontal lines are a known issue with the Mini.  I had it happen with a brand-new refurbished 2g mini.  (I occasionally get it with my nano, but it's more like a splotch of pixels, rather than just one line.)

by first accident when i saw this battery sign, i couldnt do anything, even reset (after that i gave it to service-> logic board crashed), so i think i can have some worries about it:)
