ipod mini error "No partition found"

(1/1)

bigdufstuff:
I have an iPod mini 1st gen and I use linux. I just gave a shot at installing rockbox on it for the first time. I believe I followed the instructions right, but something when wrong. When I boot the ipod it syas the following

Rockbox boot loader
Version: 20060419-1114
IPOD version: 0x0004001
HMS360404D5CF00
No partition found
Partition 1:0x0B 3859
Loading Rockbox...

And then the ipod remains the same until a reboot. Obviously I messed up my partitions somehow, although I am not sure how.

Anyway I would try reinstalling but I am unable to see the ipod in /dev now. I checked dmesg which shows nothing when I plug the ipod in. I am not sure what happened, but it no longer interfaces with my usb correctly.

Any ideas?

Thanks for help in advance.

Noxneo:
So actually, your iPod stopped working just after you installed rockbox, right ?

soap:
You should be able to get your iPod into disk mode by forcing a reset through the holding of the "Menu" and "Select" (center button) keys.
As soon as the iPod resets, switch to holding the "Select" and "Play" keys.  This should park your iPod in disk mode.

Question:
Is your iPod formated FAT?

bigdufstuff:
I've been away for a little bit so I am sorry for taking a while to reply.

Yes the ipod worked correctly before installing rockboox.

Yes the ipod is formatted for fat.

Good new, the disk mode worked :)

Should I just start the install instructions from the beginning or is there something else I should do first?

Thanks for the help!

bigdufstuff:
Hmm, I am unable to mount /dev/sda2 (where the ipod fs is) as vfat. I think I am going to format it doing

# mkfs.vfat /dev/sda2

Unless you think this is a terrible idea.
