FLAC mono playback broken (iRiver iHP-140)

(1/1)

bamyasi:
Hi,

Downloaded a bunch of FLAC-encoded files in mono recently and noticed that my HP-140 only routes sound to the left channel in default stereo mode for them. If I switch manually to Sound Settings->Channels->Mono Left then the playback resumes in both channels, but if I attempt to switch back to Stereo (while in the same mono track) the right channel got corrupted and plays continuously what sounds like a very short loop of a tiny fraction of the track. Then I can't get rid of this looping sound in the right channel until I switch the player off and on again, pretty annoying. This happens with all of my mono FLACs, consistently. The same files all play just fine on my Linux desktop, tested with Amarok (Xine engine), xmms and Noatun.

A search on 'FLAC mono' in the forum archive shows a few reports about problems with FLAC level 8 playback on iPod but nothing about iRiver port. All my FLACs are level 8 compression. I am using CVS build 20061206 at the moment, tried several previous builds to the same effect.

Comments anyone?

Just an update: installed latest CVS build today (02/02/07 10:58), same problem persists. Am I the only one affected? Start suspecting something wrong with those mono FLAC files but have no idea how to test them. There's not that many mono tracks in lossless that I have and all of them show this behavior...

Lear:
Nope, you're not alone. The FLAC decoder always decodes the file as if it was stereo. Should be easy enough to fix though...

Lear:
Fixed.
