iRiver H340

I am considering installing Rockbox on my H340, but I am apprehensive for a number of reasons

1. Should the inabilty to use DRM be a concern to me? Back in the good old days day I downloaded a fair amount of music from sources that are now not able to be used (Kazaa, etc.). Will I still be able to listen to those files on my iRiver?

2. Interface. does the H340 have a color interface when used with Rockbox? I've seen some screenshots from people who have installed GUI skins (one great one looked like winamp). Will these work well with my Rockbox?

I've heard great things about Rockbox, but I don't want to "fry" my iRiver and render it essentially useless. I just don't want to cause an irreparable damage to my player.

any help from folks would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks in advance.

I'll address point 1 and the unnumbered point 3.

1) Any music you downloaded from Kazaa, unless they have gone corporate like Napster, will be listen-toable on Rockbox.  On good faith, I'm assuming that music is legally yours so am not bringing up any of that.

3) I don't think there are any (valid) reports of rockbox "frying" any DAP it's been put on.  If that is your fear, you can dispell it.  If you put rockbox on your DAP and it turns into a doorstop, you can rest assured it was going to die on its own soon anyway.

2) Yes, colour While Playing Screens work on the 340, plus you can set a background picture for the menus
