ARCHOS 104
« on: December 07, 2006, 07:53:33 AM »
Dear all,

I've checked the daily builds and the Ports-Section of the Wiki but I couldn't find a definite answer according the ARCHOS 104. The wiki states that "Rockbox runs well on all Archos devices based on the XYZ-Chip..." but how do I know the chip without spending 150 EURs?

However the daily builds sections show only fairly old Archos devices (8 MB Memory? Today?) compared with the iPod section. Are these realy the only supported Archos models?

No information between the lately started ports about any Archos devices either...

Would be gratefull for any advice. Thanks in advance.

The second line on the rockbox.org front page says: "Archos: Jukebox 5000, 6000, Studio, Recorder, FM Recorder, Recorder V2 and Ondio"

That's it.

Do you suggest we drop the support for those players because we think that they aren't modern enough?

Of course not. Was just wondering why the "original" hardware plattform where all rather old devices while for Apple's iPod even the latest ones are supported. So I thought it was worse the question.

Thank you all for the quick answers!

Well, we support those platforms that people port Rockbox to. You can't port Rockbox to a platform that you don't own, and no Archos 104 owner has ported Rockbox to it. It's as simple as that.

There are plenty other opensource project for "newer" Archos models:

...but not for the 04 series.

PS: IMHO thoe 104 is a complete waste, it lacks all kinds of features and is the same price as this one: Sandisk Sansa. Is even available with 8GB
