Ipod Nano 1g DEAD.

Well gents,
I've been running rockbox for a few days (I ran it before as well, but it couldn't play songs that QTFairuse dumped so I ditched it until recently I heard that it could play them. Delightfully, it could!). I got home from school today. I was playing music while walking, and when I turned off the ipod it had about a 45% battery charge. I turned if off and put it on a shelf.
Fast forward a few hours, I plug it in to charge it, and mysteriously nothing happens.
OK Hmm maybe that cheap dock I bought is no good anymore.
So I plug it into the computer directly though USB.
Nope.
OK so what about plugging it in using the AC adapter?
Nope.
Nothing. The screen doesn't power up, nothing loads, it doesn't charge, it doesn't show up as a removable device in windows either. Nothing. I guess it committed suicide from listening to U2?
Any suggestions here people? I'm tempted to return it for an exchange but I assume using rockbox voids the warranty, so if they somehow get it working at the store they will have a hissy fit and not let me get a new one?
Anything I can do to fix it?

Let it charge while attached to your computer for a while. Say, an hour. Then, while it's plugged in, if it still hasn't booted up, turn hold on, then off again, then hold Menu+Select for about 30 seconds. If that fails, repeat. Try that 3 or 4 times. If the iPod is still functional at all, the Menu+Select will work, so long as your fingers don't wiggle too much. And yes, I actually mean 30 whole seconds, use something to time it. It should take less, but that's assuming everything happens as it should.

Interesting action, but it worked for me. I had the same problem as KevLeviathan.

Can you give us more information what actually made our ipod seemingly dead and how did the reanimation technically work?

Soap wants a new rule.
Every iPod declared "Dead" in the forums will be sold to Soap at 75% of eBay price for the same mode in working condition, or sent to his house for repairs costing $25.

I don't think we actually know what causes this problem. It seems to be an aspect of the hardware though, as it is known to happen on non-Rockbox'ed Nanos as well. The instructions I gave you to fix it were actually found on the Apple site originally (though I increased the number of seconds to hold down Menu+Select upon discovering that it's very easy to wiggle your fingers during the first bit of it, and make it take longer).
