Great new idea for rockbox developers
« on: December 05, 2006, 10:55:07 AM »
I give this new idea the name "Queued/insert continued" its a part of the playlist option

what is the idea purpose:
I m opening a folder with lets say 15 songs , i listen to 1 until 8
now i want to change to another folder, if i use the regular "Queued next" my list will look like this ("of" = other folder) so i will be back to the original folder
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,1of,9,10,11,12,13,14,15

According to my idea the list continue playing the other folder/playlist just from where i chose in the order of the folder , the list will look like this
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,5of,6of,7of,8of,9of..........

This option is familiar from the AB option in the original firmware so it must be in rockbox.

I dont know to wirte programs and i dont know whether its simple or compliceted but i beleive its not so hard

so give your support here so the admired rockbox guys will put it in the official release

So if I understand you, (which I'm not sure I do), you just want to start playing from a new folder and then move to subsequent folders (assuming auto-change directory is set)?

So just do that. If you are not going to go back to the original list at any point, there is absolutely no point in using an insert function.

A-B option normally means repeating a section of a single track

...so it must be in rockbox.
Where do you get that idea from?

Rockbox is a complete rewrite and uses no fragments of any original firmware.

hi you didnt understood me

in the original firmware while you r listening to a song if you press NAVI
you can browse your other files and folder and if you want a song to play next you select it and press the AB button and then this song will be the next song

after him it will continue with the new folder order

it is not so difficult to understand if you try in the original folder

i think its simple but importent option

so if you have more questions ill be happy to answer you

Choose "Playlist->Insert" on the folder, rather than an individual song, then erase unwanted songs from the current playlist.

Rockbox is focused around playlist-based playback, and does not really have the functionality in it for complex folder based playback at the moment, but what you want can be done simply by treating it from a playlist point of view, and doing what I said.

guys what is your problem

i too can think about another much more difficult ways to do it

i can wait till the song is over stop listening for few seconds and then start the other song in a new playlist , but that way of thinking will tell you why having the insert option from the first place

i think adding this feature will be a really great add on for the playlist menu

i dont have any complaints dont get me wrong
but giving me other ways ... come on

i think this option is more useful then insert shuffle
if someone think like me and have the ability to make it , ill be happy

There is no need to be rude. I explained to you rather clearly why I offered an alternative. You're free to feel this is a good idea, but you posted it in a discussion forum, and so have placed it in a location where alternative suggestions and/or criticisms are expected.

You did not post it in the right place for "This is just a suggestion, I don't want people commenting about what they think of my idea."

On the sidebar at the top of this page - 'feature requests'.

But do a search first, there may also be an existing one that you could add your comments to...

I completely disagree.
Rockbox is meant as a replacement, and not to be the same. If you want the functionality the OF offers why not use the OF? Rockbox approach in playing music (everything is a playlist) is rather different than the iriver way, so this simply doesn't fit. Winamp e.g. is based on playlists and unsurprisingly you can't change the playlist the "iriver way" (but, of course, removing a large chunk from the playlist is easier due to the more possibilities you have on a desktop pc)

Maybe it would be a feasible option to be able deleting the current playlist while playing (and stopping playback after the currently playing track in that case).
