question 5.5g firmware
« on: December 04, 2006, 02:18:31 PM »
I have just installed Rockbox on my new 5.5g ipod.

my question is can I update the firmware using the daily 5g updates or do I have to use a special patched firmware for the 5.5g

many thanks.

Daily builds should work fine. Patched builds are needed only for the bootloader at the moment (if you ever need to compile it by yourself).

Ok i don't know what help I could be but make sure you have the rockbox.ipod file in the root of your iPod and then type c: then type cd \(whatever you named the folder) then ipodpatch 0 then 1 etc. Sorry if i don't help. :-\

I thought that the 5.5g iPods aren't supported?  I got an 80gb model for my birthday (I love my wife!) but haven't used it yet, because I really don't want to install iTunes.  (I just want to copy my MP3's over, dammit!)

So, is it supported?  Or maybe it only works on the 30gb model?  Or it's still in beta?  Or...?

Rockbox works on the 30GB 5.5g, but not the 80GB.  To install on a 30GB 5.5g you must follow the new install instructions here:

Only the 30gb...  8^(  Are there plans to support the 80gb models?  I would really love to run Rockbox instead of the Apple software.  Thanks!

It's not really an issue of just choosing "to support" the 80gb model. There's still some discovery that needs to be made as to why we can't simply support it now. So it's more than just spending time doing something known, for this one.

You are going to want to look at the IpodFAQ located here

Is there an alternative location for this install instructions as rockbox.org is down for the moment?

Or look in the manual, which can be downloaded from http://download.rockbox.org.
