now that i'm ready to create my party playlist, rather than strain my eyes creating it on the rb interface, can i access already/or import  a playlist once created in itunes with rb  ?

Rockbox can read m3u playlists.  These can be made by many different applications.  I do not know if iTunes can create them though.

There is a patch in the tracker that allows reading playlists from the itunes db. I have no idea of its state but I guess there are unofficial builds out there that include this (at least if the patch is still working on a current build)

no f or g prefix,...

What does that statement mean? I do not understand you.

Also, open the playlist in a text editor and see if the entries contain a drive letter (d:\music\artistname\album1   etc.). If so, Rockbox will not understand where to find the file on your player.

Actually, Rockbox will strip the drive letter.  So as long as your directory is /music/artistname/album, it will still work.

We are not talking about changing anything, just checking that the playlist is in the correct format for Rockbox.

Please answer my previous question about the 'f or g prefix' and (although the drive letter bit was incorrect) you still need to check that your playlist file paths *actually* match the folder structure on your player.

opened the list in a text editor and there are no letter prefixes, just track names
i'll try to be clearer!
1.i have made a playlist using itunes
2.i know that rb will play m3u format playlists
3.i converted the playlist to m3u using an app called songlist to m3u
4.imported to rb and it will not play
i don't think i can be any clearer!

Yes you can! It's not a question of clarity, I understand your problem. I need more information, though, in order to actually help resolve it.

I'm not going to ask again:

Quote
no f or g prefix,...

1. What does that statement mean? I do not understand you.

2. Open the playlist in a text editor and check that the path to a file (\music\artistname\album\song.mp3) exactly matches the actual folder structure of your player (iPod by any chance?).

Playlist generator applications can create *broken* files if designed for Windows, but used on a different platform (i.e., Rockbox).

3. Do you know how to navigate your music and create a playlist using built-in Rockbox functionality? If not, learn this first before trying to use an externally-generated file.

It should have an extension of .m3u.  Itunes cannot produce m3u playlists afaik.  You will need to use another program.  Commonly used audio players like Winamp and Foobar will both produce the type of file that you need as well as many other programs.

We are all learning still.  The important part is remembering that information.  ;)
