It would be different.  Rockbox uses C.

PHP is slightly similar in syntax to C, at least for the foremost basics. It's a starting point, though not the best one.

Noxneo:
C is fairly simple though. The pointer part might be the trickiest, but it's not that challenging. I guess you could code in C properly with a month's practice (like, a few hours per week).
