Screen orientation
« on: November 25, 2006, 12:46:05 PM »
Can their be "LCD Settings>Upside Down" for the iPod build? I have it on my iRiver H120 and it seems like it would be a good feature for the iPod. Also a horazontal orientation would be nice.

why do you think there isn't?

I'm running a daily from a few days ago, and I can flip the screen on my iPod 4G.

Using what set of menus or button presses?  I don't see anything near that in the menus on my 5g 30 gig, nor in the manual for my or your ipod.

Is there an incredible amount of lag here, or do some people (I'm not mentioning any names) just not read the full thread?

First post: can I flip an iPod screen
Second post: can be done on a 4G
Third - sixth post: maybe not on a 5G
Seventh post: Second post was only on a 4G
Eighth post: I think the 2nd post was a 4G!

lol :)

So, what everybody has been avoiding saying is that this feature is only in iPod 4G greyscale?

Is there a technical reason why it's not in all models, or isn't part of Rockbox in general?

The reason it's not in Rockbox in general is because it's not actually a software feature. It makes use of the LCD controller's flip option, if I understand correctly. It's hardware dependent but requires no additional math or complication in the software, so is almost free, if I understand correctly. There's no software equivalent yet, if my memory serves.

Sorry I have to bring this thread back to light. ;)

Is the screen orientation feature available for other platforms?  I have a Gigabeat F60.  I've been looking through the feature requests all week.  Glad I didn't create a new one requesting a configurable screen orientation.  That would have been annoying.

Although Upside Down is cool, can we also have the screen be able to rotate right 90 degrees.  (As in video mode, using the mpegplayer plugin?)  Key mappings would follow the screen of course.  Toshiba had this feature originally.  We Gigabeat owners could then use the dominantly wicked iPod color  wps's.

Should I create a new feature request or add a comment onto the Upside Down request.  (Still can't find that actual feature request or patch.)

-Thanks.

Please read the post of mine immediately preceding yours. You generally should not post in a thread without actually reading it first.

I read that, and saw that you said it was a hardware dependant feature.  I know the Gigabeats can rotate to the right 90 degrees because it did it originally.

I mainly posted here because it was a similiar feature and I wanted to get info about the patch or see if I needed to open a new feature request for devices that can implement screen orientation.  I don't see the menu option that everyone mentioned.

I didn't want to submit a redundant feature request so I posted to this thread.
