My iPod no longer turns on.

(1/1)

Sequell:
I have a 4th gen greyscale iPod. I installed Rockbox on it last night, but it frequently crashed. On the advice of people in the Rockbox IRC channel, I installed MikeAge's fix for the bug (see here: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=6357.0).

It worked fine for the 25-30 minutes that I used it. I turned my iPod off, then came back ten hours later and attempted to boot my iPod. It displayed a "no battery" screen, then switched off. I put it on my charger, but it still wouldn't boot, and no "Charging" screen came up. I tried to access it via USB, but no luck there either -- nothing happens at all.

It just seems dead. Is there anything I can try? The iPod has had no troubles in the 12-15 months since I bought it. I'd really appreciate any help anyone can offer.

I didn't do it!

In all seriousness... this happened to me once before (although ironically not with my build). Try plugging it into the wall (not the PC) and leaving it for a few hours. It took that long for mine to register that it was charging; after that it worked just fine.

You might try holding down the menu + select buttons for 10 seconds or more and see if anything happens.  I occasionally get that type of error on my 5g iPod with Rockbox installed, as do others:

Well, it just turned on, after me holding down Menu+Select for 20-30 secs... thanks a lot. I did attempt to boot it that way, but not for that long! :)

Just wanted to say thanks, because this thread helped me fix the same problem!
