Tag Cache renamed

Tag cache has been renamed to simply "Database" as of a few hours ago. So if you update to a bleeding edge build, or the next daily (20061126), you will need to either rebuild your database or rename the files under .rockbox starting with tagcache and replace that with database ("tagcache_idx.tcd" becomes "database_idx.tcd" etc.).

There should be no other ill effects. If you see any mention of Tag Cache in the manual after it's been rebuilt (at the same time the daily build gets updated, so not yet), please report it here or file a bug report.

Aww, I liked the name TagCache--it had style.  "Database" just doesn't send me ...

(But, of course, it is more explicitly understandable.)

The Commit notes said Tag Cache was too 'cryptic', but surely it's more descriptive than Database which is not unique enough for accurate searching.

We need a WikiWord that describes the functionality such as:

TagList, MusicList, TagDb, MusicDb, RockDb, TagBase, TagBrowser, MusicBrowser, MusicDatabase, RockBase, RockList, TagStore, MusicStore etc...

Well, part of the issue was that it was not just a cache of tags.  I personally think that Database is just too ambiguous.

Most of your suggestions are not valid either, as it is more than just tags and music.  I suggested something along the lines of AuralDatabase and names like that, but I did not come up with much.

Perhaps something like RockboxNavigator, then, which also encompasses the runtime/stats aspects of the functionality?

I was not referring to RuntimeDB as the "more than" part.  I was talking about more as in (for example): It can also encompass Podcasts as well as audiobooks, besides music.

TagDataBase seems logical to me. It doesn't flow as well at TagCache or TagBase, but there is no mistaking what it is.

Just curious, what comes to mind when you see "Database" on a DAP? I think "database with metadata, such as ID3 tags, like on every other DAP". What else would it be?

I don't think the problem is "Database" being a non-intuitive word, I think the problem is database is too generic of a term to be given proper noun status.
