patches confusion
« on: November 22, 2006, 03:02:23 PM »
Hi, i just switched to rockbox. i've got it working perfectly with a WPS and everything. one thing that i noticed was that it took a beastly long time to scroll through my music, and after some research i found the 4 step acceleration patch.

the only problem is, that i dont know any cygwin commands. i have the patch file, and i can obtain the rockbox source to patch. but i dont understand what the "workingwithpatches" page is telling me.

actually, im confused about the whole thing. am i even right in thinking that patching the latest source code will enable the new code?

Yes.  You download the source code, apply the patch (which adds new source code) and then compile it.  You might want to search and see if anyone has posted a ready made version with your patch though.

thank you. i have now conducted the search and i found that the patch is still rather buggy. apparently, it starts skipping around too much. i could probably modify the patch so the acceleration is not as large, but i will wait until it is made official and included in the release.
