Rockbox freezed on H320, please help!
« on: November 21, 2006, 08:23:59 AM »
Hi everyone,

I installed rockbox on my iRiver H320 yesterday and it worked.  I initialized the tag cache by using "initialize now" in the tag cache menu. When I changed the option "show files" under "general settings" to "ID3 Database" today, rockbox freezed. It now shows the main menu, the clock does not work any more and the display is always on. Button-pressing does nothing.
What can I do? Is it possible the player is broken?

Thanks for your help!

I'm not a user of tag cache, but I have scared myself by setting Show Files to ID3 Database - this makes the file browser blank.

Is there any possibility that this is what's happened to you ? (I'm thinking that while it's building the database it will be blank) - try a long press of the A-B button and set it back to show all files or supported

If really no buttons are being responded to you could try a long press of the stop button (that's handled in low level code so may still do a shutdown) or the reset button - paperclip required.

Hi,

unfortunately it really freezed. No button does anything. This is now the case for 1,5 hours.

What does the reset do exactly? Does it reset the original firmware? And how can I reset?

The reset button (pressed with something small like a paper clip) momentarily disconnects the battery.

Your player is most likely NOT broken. Just that rockbox is not 100% stable - since it's work in progress.. These things happen.
Just reset your player and turn it on again.

Thanks, this worked!

The setting of "show files" was "supported" when I turned the player on again. I will leave this alone for now...

If you want to be helpful you can test the firmware and if you can get a freeze like that to reliably occur under certain conditions then you can post a bug report on the patch tracker. Then somebody may see it and fix it! Resetting your player like that won't harm it.
