H1x0: Next in playlist/queue on REC button
Rincewind:
You have to download the source, and apply the patch to the source, then you compile the source.
You can find all the information needed in the wiki.
useful pages are: SimpleGuideToCompiling and VMWareDevelopmentPlatform and UsingCVS

And what about platforms that don't have SELECT/NAVI button? (eg. Ondio)
I think that every player should be treat seperately on this matter, it is impossible to have a completely consistent button layout on so many different targets.
Having said that, I consider that it is indeed important to have a consistent button layout as much as we can, but the most important part of this IMO are the navigation buttons (Up/Down/Right/Left). So it's better to alter/enhance functionality on "extra" buttons (like RECORD) for such purposes rather than these buttons.

Ipod doesn't have any extra buttons that can be used for this purpose, so it would need to be either the right arrow or the SELECT button. It's also possible that there will be targets where this type of shortcut simply can't be implemented. I don't know if the Ondio falls in this group or not.

Rincewind: Will the chosen song be put in last queue position (that's what I'd prefer personally)? Or possible to choose if it'll be queued in first or last position.

Don't know yet. I would make an option to chose, but every option I put in makes the patch less likely to ever get committed. My personal preference is "insert last".
But don't expect something from me in the near future.
Mmmm:
The build in my sig includes rincewinds patch and a one click playlist insert patch (clicking the navi button enters the track(s) into the playlist when the feature is switched on (menu->playlist options->Click insert options where you can choose the behaviour)) , so that should give you everything you want I think. (This build will only work on the H120/H140 Players)
The one click patch I used is here: http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/2653
