JBR v1 6gb - Replace a dead ATA controller?
(1/1)
dannyg1:
Dreaded red LED, HD register error and the batteries were externally charged, with no good effect. Solder connections are fine. Charging circuit functions normally. Will attempt to replace wiring harness that diagonals from top to bottom of player next but, if that doesn't work, is it possible to replace the ATA controller?
Thanks,

LinusN:
There is no ATA controller, only a few buffers. The rest is done in the CPU. Are you sure it's not the hard drive?
Besides, it could still be the batteries. Have you tried a new set of batteries?
dannyg1:
I bought an external box to do the full set of tests on the drive and it tests fine. Bought new batteries and an external charger. Have gone over the thing with a fine tooth comb, made sure that the drive is correctly FAT32 and still nada. Next up is to re-solder all the ground points. After that, I'll leave it. Bought a newer ARJ in the meantime so things are less urgent, though the new one may have the headphone jack wired backwards.....
